Anyone else not moved on to making alphas yet bc they are too comfortable making normal bracelets and are scared that alphas will be too difficult?? I want to start making alphas but I don’t know where to start really, id really appreciate some advice from people who have recently made their first alpha so I know what I’m going in to 🙂

once you get the hang of it it's not hard at all, the only confusing thing at first is the color switch but once you get that down it's just practice after that 😊

Hey! I recently started making bracelets and I did my first alpha not that long ago. It definitely was hard my first time so I did a small keyring and it took ages but it was worth it! It wasn't perfect and I have made many more and I enjoy them a lot more than normal bracelets because there is so much more variety! My first alpha was #21683. All I can really say is not to use your favourite thread on your first few alphas because I felt like it was a waist of mine! Make sure all your thread is the same size because that was my mistake! Hope this helps?! 😊

I'm about to try making my first alpha too..! I think small pattern with only 2-3 colors (I'm eyeing #894 , #3624 and #5735) would be a good first-time practice♥
(And I agree, using your least favorite threads first would be best ;;v;; The first time I tried normal pattern was a disaster.)

I just finished my first alpha and it turned out ok but I probably should have picked an easier pattern. I would say choose something small/short and no more than 2 or 3 colors! Also try to use string all from the same brand. I underestimated how much string I needed so half of my background is a different brand string, and it looks super wonky!

I really recommend using the straight edges method and the flat alpha method from the beginning so that you can get comfortable with them early on. Masha knots on YouTube has a video where she teaches both techniques

@RansRoom oh yeah I think doing one with only a few colours will be good to start with thanks for the tip!

@madeleine_ this is a good idea thanks! It’s better to learn those from the beginning so I don’t have to worry about it later on !!

@madeleine_ @2128 so I’m attempting to make #26396 and I’m watching masha knots videos on alphas but when you do the forward backward knot on the ends, doesn’t that mean you make one less knot in the row ? I did a little bit of it but now the pattern isn’t working and I’m missing a knot (basically everything is shifted one knot to the left in the second row of the pattern) and I think I have to unknot it

@madeleine @2128 it seems like I have been doing the forward backward technique wrong and missing out a knot 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

@Alicia5702 you always do two fb or bf knots at the end of each row. you do two fb knots on the right most string and two bf knots on the left most string, even if there is a color switch on the edge. that should solve your problem🙂
