Why is my alpha bracelet progressively getting thinner?

I made my first alpha bracelet and it starts off pretty wide but then gets thinner and thinner. Other than that it looks pretty good, but I’d like to know how to fix this before I start my next bracelet. Does this just get better with practice? Thanks for the advice!

Hi! For me, it has gotten better with practice but a tip to improve it is consistency with your knots. Making sure that all of your knots all the same tightness is super important. Sometimes this does slow down the alpha making process, but it's worth it for the end result!

it may be a knot consistency problem, for that you just have to have practice. but also it depends if you're mixing thread brands or knot. in alphas you have to have pretty close to the same thickness or your alpha might look a bit inconsistent in places. it just takes practice 😊

you're making your knots too tight, keep them consistent

maybe you are starting out whit loose knots and slowly making them tighter which you shouldn’t be doing, you have to keep the same amount of tension throughout to whole pattern 😊

Your Knots might be too tight! Also be sure to be using the same brand of string. For instance, don't mix dmc with another brand that may be thicker or thinner I find that this is only a problem with alphas..

This happened to me when I started alpha's. Try to pull/ tie the knots at equal strength, and try to use the same brand of strings. If you can't, then try to use threads with similar width

it’s the tenson you put on all the knots like if you tied them kinda looser the alpha will get wider and the tighter you tie the knots the thinner your bracelet will progress to be

You might be tying your knots tighter without even noticing

I think as it is your first alpha it means that you are probably starting with bracelets so I would think it is because you are getting used to knotting and your knots are slowly getting better and better - tighter

It might have something to do with how you’re starting your bracelet. Starting with a triangle end would probably help fix this. But there’s also a pretty good chance that the problem will fix itself as you get more practice with alphas
