I recently got my first bracelet order!! (Yay money to fuel my string addiction!) The person who ordered it is asking for a bracelet that will fit a 5 inch wrist that can be taken on and off without dangling string because of the person they are giving it to that works as a Tow Truck Driver. I don’t know how to start and end a bracelet without folding my bracelets in half. The pattern they requested doesn’t have string that mirrors itself. How long should I make these strings and how should I start/end this bracelet?

i normally cut my string a little longer than my bracelet will be and don't fold them in half but tie a knot at the top and at the end i just tie a normal knot and cut the excess to the desired length

@bumblbeebr I’ve asked the buyer if they were going to be okay with doing that but the person says they don’t want to keep it on, they want to be able to take it on and off.

Is there any way you could add a clasp?

Could you say which pattern you are doing, I think it would be easier to help is you know the pattern. If they want a bracelet that they can easily take off then you could do a sliding closure, you can do this by doing braids at either end of the bracelet then do square knots to secure the 2 braids together, look it up on YouTube. I think I can say more on the folding strings part if I know the pattern 🙂

What I’m worried about @jesmc2129 is that I will make the bracelet too big or too small for that person because the buyer said they don’t exactly know how big the person it is intended for wrist is

They just guessed and said about five inches around, that’s why I don’t know how long to make the strings because the pattern they want uses a lot of black string and I use black a lot so I would rather not waste it.

I meant that you could make the bracelet on the smaller side and add a clasp with extra link chain to make it adjustable in size. Probably better to go with @Knots_EM suggestion tho because going out and getting a clasp is a lot of work 😂

The pattern they have requested is #28355 @Knots_EM I asked if that would work but the person says they would be worried about getting the strings caught in the machinery and causing the person to get injured or something

Use crimp ends, i would send some to u, but i live in the philipines..... use bascally clamp down the ends then add chains rings and clasps, that way they can adjust it to their liking, masha has a great tutorial

Use the biggest size, and the other things youll need are pliers, the one thats flat, and glue or clear nail polish!

At least a chain would break if it got caught, which is better for safety measures.

The person receiving the bracelet is male so I don’t think they want to have a dainty clasp..

I did some research on wrist sizes a few weeks ago and the average male wrist size is around 7 inches, but of course this varies. I think if you do the the size of the wrist plus one inch and do a sliding closure I think it will be fine. Honestly you are the seller so you do what you think will be best. I think as long as they can take it off easily it will be fine, the person who it is for isn't necessarily going to where it for work, that's just what the customer is expecting so I think as long as you make it easy to take off you should be fine

@MrsOtter2 how long did it take for you to get your first order? Me and my sister have recently started a shop but we haven’t got any orders yet?

I recommend a knotted beginning loop? those aren’t thin like just a tied loop of your strings. And I don’t know if it would be thick enough, but if you use braided ties those would get caught less. Alex innovations has a great beginning loop tutorial on youtube. @innovate

@MrsOtter2 So there are tutorials on how to make adjustable friendship bracelets if that's a good choice for your customer. You can have braided ends, but you can make a shaped start on any pattern. You can have loose ties, doesn't need to be mirrored either, and you can follow the exact same steps (I recommend Alex's Innovations' shaped start tutorial) to make the shaped start and then start the pattern. It's a bit hard to explain over a message but if you're interested in this route and have any questions I'd be happy to help. 🙂

@Craftanati thank you so much for the information!! @cooper10 I actually didn’t even open a shop, I had just posted on my Snapchat about making bracelets and people began asking me about if I would make them one if they paid me. I don’t technically have a shop but I have made it an option for people to order one through my Snapchat/instagram.

Thank you everyone who has contributed to this Q&A! I think I have a game plan but I want people to still answer in case other people see this and are asking the same question I had 😊
