How do you start patterns with only one string of a certain colour?

I would usually just tie a loop knot in order to double the colours over to get 2 strings of each colour, but I’m doing pattern #35886 so I don’t know how to start it. Any ideas?

You could do triangle ends

In this case, for this pattern I would do half-triangle ends. Alex's innovations has a tutorial for a watermelon bracelet, and she shows how to make a half-triangle end. I recommend watching it, and doing it with the pattern you're making.
