At first segment knotting seemed easier and faster to me but i have noticed that:- my bracelets had no staight edges ( maybe i made some knots tighter than others but i couldn t control it) - it was too muck of mental work to decide where is my segment - I made more mistakes when segment knotting I tried row by row and bracelets are straighter and i dont need to think to much. What is your opinion? What do you prefer? |

I’ve never tried segment knotting 😅

if it is a pattern like #2, I prefer doing it in the shape of a chevron, but if it is easier for me to do it line by line for almost any other pattern. There are some exceptions, such as #27555 and #10647. those, I choose to do them in either in a chevron shape or stripe shape.

i personally prefer segment knotting. once you get the hang of it it becomes super easy and fun. actually, i feel like row by row requires more mental work because segment knotting allows you to memorize the pattern more easily. it certainly requires a lot of mental work at first when you start making the bracelet but once you do a cycle of the pattern, it is easy going from there. also you don’t have to keep checking back on the pattern grid like you would with row by row knotting. and honestly unless the knot structure of the pattern behaves like a candystripe i don’t usually have a problem with having un-straight edges. but of course that is just my opinion!

I agree with @arf820. My edges do tend to be a little weirder with segment knotting, but for me, segment knotting makes the whole bracelet making process much more enjoyable

It really depends on the knotter! I like segment knotting and it works well with me. I believe it just takes practice. But in reality, it's all about personal preferences. If you like to segment know more, go for it! Practice makes perfect anyways!

I’ve only tried segment knotting a couple days ago, and I find it to be much more stimulating than going row by row. With certain patterns I might continue to go by each row, especially if the pattern is more difficult. I did have a bit of a problem with the thickness of my knots on one side, but that will come with practice

Definitely segment knotting. It helps me do the knots without the pattern, which makes it easier and quicker. If I doubt whether my edges will be nice, I add a string with straight edges technique.

I used to do row by row, I do think that it was easier to keep edges straight and I made less mistakes, but I like the efficiency overall of segment knotting much better. And it's something I've gotten better at over time - I used to completely overshoot the number of knots I needed to make while segment knotting! Now I make sure to count how many knots I need to make in a section before starting 😂

I prefer segment knotting because I can really see my bracelet start to form and I can see if I’m doing the pattern right

I prefer segment knotting because it is easier and faster for me. For me, segment knotting takes around 5 hours, but when I do row by row, I take around 4 days. It is also easier to memorize, so I don’t have to look at the pattern. The only time that I don’t segment knot is when there are lots of forward-backward or backward-forward knots. I hope this helped!❤️

I only use segment knotting personally its way easier for me and I remember the pattern faster and makes my knotting faster just takes a little getting used to hope that helped 😊

I go segment knotting all the way. It's so much faster and easier, it just might take a while to understand if you're new. I definitely recommend it. 🙂

I only segment knot. That’s how I was taught to make bracelets. My edges are fine and I don’t really think a ton about the segments but it comes with practice. I’ve been knotting that way for 16 years 😊

I learned how to make bracelets with segment knotting, so that's what comes naturally to me. I actually didn't know that row by row knotting was a thing, until I saw a video that discussed row by row versus segment knotting 😂

What is segment knotting exactly 🤔

@Sam_Stone instead of knotting row by row you find lines of solid colour within the pattern that you can follow. When you do this you don’t have to put your knotting string down between knots and so over time it allows you to knot quicker and able to memorize a pattern easier.

I like segment knotting when I can — what helps me to do it more easily is to go through and mark down all the places where I’m going to know beforehand. But yeah, like everyone else has said, it just takes practice, too!
