i used to read 1 2 1 2 patterns and in those patterns you leave out the outer 2 strings so in normal patterns do you leave out the outer two strings? {if your reading row by row to be specific}

yes. 1 2 1 2 patters are normal patterns. in which every other row you leave out the outer strings .
