I would go for maybe around 4 feet (1.21 Meters), seeing as how wide this pattern is.
Depending on how long you want it, maybe more.

I do like to be cautious and give myself extra string!

For bracelets this thick I usually cut my strings 5 - 5 and 1/2 feet long. However, I like my bracelets on the longer side so it can fit a larger range of people.

Cutting strings: most bracelets need to be cut about the length from your fingertips to your center chest with your arm spread out beside you like your an airplane to about 1 meter long. For your pattern @Pippa, try making your strings just under one meter long. One meter is about the same length as your right finger tips to your left arm elbow when your arms are stretched out like an airplane. 🙂 Have a great day 😛

@ecote8 Well, that really depends on how tight you make your knots. To be safe, I would do two arms length or about 3.5 ft.

Do 2 1/2-3 feet for a single string and 5 1/2-6 feet for loops.

I use my arm span and sometimes my height and then fold them in half. Have 1 string 6-8 inches longer to make a loop.

How long should I have strings for alphas? Im kinda new to alphas and I started one, but made my base strings too short so I don't have enough for the ties, lol

@nicoleknot If you’re making a bracelet and you’re going to be repeating the pattern until the bracelet gets long enough: the bass strings should be the length that you want the bracelet to be, plus the combined length of the ties. If you’re making a charm or keychain or something (like the “dad” alpha that you can see in my photos): use an alpha you’ve made in the past to figure out how long each row is, then use that to calculate how long your finished charm/keychain/whatever will be. And then make sure to leave extra for whatever type of ends you want to do
