If you're on the website, go to the dropdown menu (hover over your profile picture) and the last button is called "create patterns." Click on that and chose whether you want a normal or an alpha.

if you are making your first pattern, do an alpha even if you don't make them. normal patterns are harder to design, since you have to know the direction of the knots
