Alphas curl and look like a shell

ok, so everytime I do an alpha, they curl but not too bad. But then sometimes it could look like or feel like a shell. I made a key chain with a loop and triangle ends and it sorta felt like a shell. Anyone know hot to prevent that or fix it? Also, plz check my bio for a message I added in. |

maybe you're making your knots too tight? when I first started making alphas, I pulled too tight and that would happen. I've also heard of people using a straightener to flatten their alphas, idk if it works tho haha

Make sure that you’re doing both edge knots for every single row. So like you get to the end of the first row and you do a fb knot, make sure to then do another fb knot before you start doing the second row. Sorry if that doesn’t make sense

one of the problems with alphas i think many people over look is how tight your background strings are... by this is mean, if you use a color on the left side, then leave it loose in the back, then use it again on the right side, if you pull that loose string really tight, it will bunch up all of the row between and create a bump, which i imagine is what you mean by “shell” . in the future, make sure that your unused loose leading strings in the back are in fact loose, and to fix bracelets you have already made you can simple cut those strings on the back!

I’m not sure if you do, but I use the flat alpha technique. Masha Knots has a tutorial on it! Short explanation:You could be tying your knots with different tensions, same tensions for the knots make the bracelet better.

(Whoops) short explanation: do two fb knots in the farthest right base string, and two bf knots on the farthest left string.

Try the flat alpha technique. Masha knots has a vid called flat alphas. Hope this helps I have not made a good alpha
