@slay_queen Most people, myself included, use embroidery floss. DMC is the best. It's sold by the individual skein (they're about $0.50/skein) and comes in a ton of colors. It's at Walmart and craft stores. If it's too pricey for you, you can buy large packs of other brands pretty cheaply. What comes in the packs isn't quite as nice and there's less color variety, but it works just fine. Stay away from "friendship thread" and "craft thread"-they break easily. Some people use crochet thread or nylon thread. I've never used crochet thread so I can't tell you anything about it. I've worked with nylon thread a bit and didn't like it as much. It works for some people though. It's sold in very large spools for about $3 each.

On amazon look up Mira handcrafts friendship bracelet string and then there should be on for about 12 dollars it comes with 105 skeins with 35 different colors with about 3 of each color So far it has lasted me a while.
