Walmart has embroidery floss, friendship thread, and nylon thread. Also resale stores tend to have a lot for really cheap although you may have to untangle it.

If you search Anchor brand embroidery floss on Amazon, they sell the individual colors in 12 count boxes. The prices vary depending on the popularity of the color, but they're still very reasonable.

I use crochet thread for bracelets and it works a little differently than embroidery thread. The knots are thicker which only depends on the thickness of the string. I recommend crochet thread because it comes in bulk. Walmart has some. The brand I use is Bernat. Aunt Lydia's works as well. Umm there might be Walmart brand I don't know. If you buy at Walmart there are limited colors but it is cheaper. If you buy at an actual craft store they normally run a little higher but have more color varieties. Good Luck

I suggest searching on Etsy and Amazon. If you don't mind waiting for shipments from other countries you could also check out Aliexpress. I get my string/cord by the roll which has about 100-200 yards each depending on the size.

chey1470 you're thinking of nylon thread; there are three brands that I use that are pretty cheap: Omega- made in Mexico, so you'll have to order it online (I get mine from a "string dealer" haha); Artiste- I've gotten it at Hobby Lobby; and lastly, Redheart Sizzle- I found it at Walmart, although the spools are smaller. Omega and Artiste nylon spools come with 300 yards and are around $3 a spool (although you buy it in bulk, it's cheaper in the long run! I only have to buy thread like once a year) The Redheart yarn brand nylon is 100 yards and I think it's like $.99 at Walmart. However, please note that nylon is a crochet thread, so make sure you buy size 2 thread! All brands work very well and can be used with one another. Hope this helps! PS you can burn the ends so it lasts longer!

Does anyone have a comparison chart for crochet thread to mm? I tie quite a lot of different things using embroidery thread to 28mm rope so the different thickness might come in handy.

i mostly just buy the packs of 36 from michael's or walmart (if i'm at school there's no nearby michael's!) and just buy a bunch of the packs at the same time. michael's gives a lot of coupons and if you have one of their 40% off coupons you can also get a pack of 144 skiens for about 7 bucks.
