I would say use left over string or the colors you hate and use the same brand if possible.

they also don't have to be that long of a string. if your making a alpha bracelet I suggest your base strings match the color of your pattern that way it looks prettier.

buy a yarn, it doesn't have to be the exact same size and it comes with wayyy more string for less money(: any brand is fine

I always use white as my base strings. It’s a base that will look good with anything, it can also be any brand of string. But when putting strings on top of it I would recommend using the same brand for the actual bracelet part.

this is kinda late but I use aunt lydias crochet thread fashion size 3 for a base. you can get it from Michaels for pretty cheap!

I use a thinner crochet thread, it works great and you can get it in large quantities and in many basic colors. I prefer Aunt Lydia's

You can use yarn, crochet thread, I usually use embroidery floss. Just make sure the base strings are the same thickness.
