so i just watched masha knots’ video on the flat alpha technique. correct me if i’m wrong, but can i use the flat alpha technique so that my alpha is flat but keep the ending the rows with backward and forward knots?

Yes, you can. The thing she did on the edges is the straight edges technique. You don't have to use it. You can do your regular edges.
