If I were to make an Alpha bracelet, could I use cotton friendship cord as the base strings while still using embroidery thread to make the pattern itself?

Yes you can, when I don’t have much thread I normally do the whole alpha in wool, but if I want to make a bracelet or something I will do it all in thread or the base strings in wool and the leading strings in thread

You do want to make sure all of your base strings are the same thickness so your bracelet isn't wonky. Also make sure the strings you actually knot with are also the same brand or thickness or most importantly make the same size knots. This is so your bracelet doesn't have bumps up and down everywhere. I do recommend Masha Knots and her alpha tutorials. They are really helpful for starting out.

Personally, I actually prefer for my base strings to be thicker than the knotting strings

I haven't used friendship cord in years, but I can imagine it'd be nice. Personally I dislike the texture, but if you like it go ahead!

You can unless you’re using flat alpha technique. If you’re using flat alpha and you have different size strings, it comes out all wonky

@Wildfire7 not just you. I have the same issue. Might be that I’ve only used craft cord as the knotting string and I think it thins as you go 😕

The problem I have with knotting with friendship cord is the fraying as I go, which is why I knot with embroidery thread but I have an abundance of friendship cord i'd like to use. Thank you for the help! <3
