I am about to make #28473. I have 2 questions, can I make a loop for this pattern? If I need to tweak the pattern because I have to add a string, how do I?

You probably can bc the picture has a loop.

@afc610 if I add a string, will I have to do an extra background knot?

Yes you would have to have an extra background knot. However you wouldn’t have to add an extra base string to make a loop because there are an even amount of base strings.

@taelor , that is true, but how would I add in the base string?

If you are adding an extra string and making a loop I would suggest cutting 12 base strings to fold in half, with one being slightly longer to do your loop with, and then cut one string the same length and split it in half. So if you are using 6 strand embroidery floss make it so it’s only 3 strands. Then take one of the other base strings, fold it in half, while having all the normal base strings bunches together as you would to make the loop, then take the 3 strand string and put it through the folded string so they are both folded in half, and sort of locked together. Then lay that across the other base strings so the half string makes 1 string and you will have 2 full strings on the other side. You will have 13 base strings on the side with the full string and 12 on the side with the split string tat creates one string. And then you make the loop. Hope this helps!

Or you could cut 12 base strings to fold in half and make the loop with your background string, lining it up on one side before you start knotting the loop so it would be your leading background string and the extra base string. If that makes sense

Doesn't the pattern already have an even amount of base strings (24)? Why would you want to add an extra string? (Looking at the amount of strings can be misleading because it counts the leading string as a string but if you look at the dimensions the smaller number is your amount of base strings.)

@halokiwi but then how would I insert the leading string into the keychain?

The same way you'd insert a new colour when doing a colour switch on a multicoloured alpha. Or did you plan doing the technique you can only use for two coloured alphas where you don't insert a new leading string but knot with the base strings for your second colour?

If you where to add another string you just have to pick either side of the bracelet and do an extra row of white.
