I’ve been making a lot of alphas lately, and it’s made me realize how much embroidery thread you actually need to make one. I use very soft yarn as the base strings, but I still need a LOT of embroidery thread for the backgrounds. I was wondering if anyone has tried mixing yarn and DMC embroidery thread in alphas, or if anyone knows what happens?
Have a great day!

I haven't mixed it but I do know that from watching videos that it's best not to mix differnt types of thread because it may result in different size knots and wonky-ness. If the embroidery thread and yard are of a similar thickness and make similar size knots thaen you may just want to practice before hand but the general rule of thumb is just to use one type

i would probably recommend you stick to yarn as base strings, because if they are different sizes, it might make the bracelet wonky and weird. unless it is a thin type of yarn, though

I use yarn as base string and thread as the leading strings but do not put different thicknesses for the base strings or the leading strings or the rows can be wonky but for me if it’s a few colours I normally use all wool

Along as they are pretty similar in size so they make the same size of knots

I saw Masha Knots uses this thread sometimes for her projects, so it must be good!

It's called Pllieay and it comes with 100 different colors. Perfect for having lots of shades on hand to make alphas!
I don't knot bracelets just yet, but if I ever start making alphas, I'll probably get it because it doesn't seem to expensive and with a wide variety of color, that's good for alphas 🙂

I'm on a quest to find the best embroidery thread so I've been searching high and low for the best stuff lol

In alphas it is fine if ALL your base strings are yarn and ALL your leading strings are embroidery. The knots are the main concern, and consistent knot size is important for straight/even alphas.
