it may look overwhelming at first, i get it! however, i do not think i can explain through typing, maybe someone else can? in the meantime, id really recommend watching masha knots tutorial on it or watching other youtube vides on it. theres also a 'how to read patterns' video on this website! thats how i learned! dont worry, youll be getting the hang of it soon. let me know if you need the link to any video!

There are four types of knots in a normal bracelet. The symbols for the knots are pretty self-explanatory. You already know the f knot (arrow to the right) and b knot (arrow to the left) from alpha patterns. Then there are also fb (arrow to the right, then to the left) and bf (left right) knots. The first half of the fb knot is like the f knot the second like the b knot. For the b knot it's the other way around.

For a beginner it's easiest to read patterns row by row. You bring your strings in the order you can see at the beginning of the pattern. Then you make all the knots of the first row, once you've done that you continue to the next row. You can basically read the patterns like you'd read a book, row by row and left to right.

adding on to what @halokiwi said, another way to read normal patterns is to segment knot. if you’ve done a candystripe (pattern #1) and/or chevron (pattern #2) you’ve most likely segment knotted. if not, i recommend starting with these two patterns since they are the simplest normal patterns. basically with segment knotting, you find a diagonal row of knots all the same color, and knot that row in one go. so with a candystripe, it’s literally just rows of f knots. with a chevron, you do half of the row with f knots and the other half with b knots and then any knot to complete the v shape. like other people said before me, i recommend watching masha knots’s normal pattern tutorials on youtube because she segment knots the pattern she is teaching you how to do. that way you get a feel for segment knotting. hope that helps!
