I'm still a beginner (the most complicated normal pattern I know is the diamond) but I still want to start doing alphas. What should I do?

alphas aren’t too hard once you get the hang of them. if you want you can even start now. just watch alpha tutorials on youtube (i recommend masha knots’s two alpha tutorials) and pick an easy pattern to start with!

Do you have any recommendations on what patterns to start with?

The general advice for starting with alphas is do an around 10 strand pattern with 2 or 3 colours.

#12359 is great for beginners! I recommend anything under 13 base strings and no more than 3 colors!😊

@LocoEva there are a lot of good cactus patterns with very few strings and color switches.

I have another question about alphas, can i do a teardrop loop with them? Yes, only if their are a even amount of strings but other than that. 🤔 🤨

you can definitely do a loop with alphas! you just start it like a normal loop but stop it when it’s straight across and start knotting with your leading string onto it 🙂

a great way to start doing alphas is to just take it as slow as possible!

Probably when you feel comfortable with all the different knots. Also you should watch different tutorials on them first. I learned from Masha Knots on yt

if you’re comfortable feel ready to move on, do it! i started with #6515, it was pretty easy, especially if you watch some youtube videos from masha knots!

I would start when you feel confident with a normal pattern. When you first start alphas I would recommend doing one that doesn't have many color switches (2-3 colors). Also I wouldn't recommend starting with an alpha that has color switches on the edge either. Tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YVFAX9sacw&t=770s |

I don't think I'm ready for alphas but the next patterns I want to do are chevron and dots, and arrowheads. Thanks! ❤️And I might try a few chalenges.

I would recommend starting alphas when you feel comfortable with normal patterns. Also I would start with one that doesn't change colors many times, and that doesn't have color changes on the edges. Tutorials: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePr81hbvdjE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YVFAX9sacw&t=770s Also what kind of tips and tricks are you looking for? Hope this helps! 😊 |
