I watched Masha Knots tutorial in alphas and the straight alpha technique, and I’m confused. So in the edges of an alpha she did forward-backward and backward-forward knots. Do you need to add two extra base string to do the forward-backward and backward-forward knots? Also it would be great if you could give any tips for keeping alphas from being puffy.

To do the straight edges technique on an alpha pattern you don't need to add extra base strings. You just do bf knots on the base string on the left edge and fb knots on the base string on the right edge. The flat alpha technique can help keep a bracelet less puffy but I assume that's already the video you're watching. In general it helps to leave the loose strings behind the bracelet relatively loose so they don't pull on the bracelet |

No extra strings are needed. Just change your edges from all forward knots/all backward knots to the respective forward-backward and backward-forward knots. For less puffy alphas, use the flat-alpha technique. I believe Masha Knots has a video on this also

Ok thanks! Also will doing this technique make the rows not straight?

sometimes if my rows are getting wonky I do two bf or fb knots on the side strings to fix this

@t_bracelet you need to do two anyways because each row needs the same amount of knots.

@halokiwi Is that why my ends look slightly shorter than the middle of an alpha? I need to do two f/b or b/f knots on the ends?

@knotmyname yes exactly, one knot of each side of every row. That means you have to make two fb and two bf knots on the last string because you start the next row.

@halokiwi That makes sense. I am another step closer to neat alphas! Thanks!
