Segment knotting is when instead of knotting row by row you knot in diagonals as often as possible. If you have done pattern #1 or #2 you have most likely already segment knotted. You need to find parts in the pattern that you can knot at once while still being able to do all other knots without the previously done knots interfering.Like mentioned above I have written a tutorial on segment knotting but there's also another one by @WovenKitty. Are you trying to figure a specific pattern out or do you want to know how to segment knot in general? |

masha knots on youtube has a video tutorial on the dovetail! in general she shows you how to segment knot specific pattern in her pattern tutorials. i recommend following along with her pattern tutorials so you can get a feel for segment knotting before attempting to segment knot a pattern yourself. segment knotting can be challenging to start off with but once you practice it more and more it becomes really easy and fun. hope that helps!

I normally do the first row, then keep track of where the strings end up. Its a good idea to take 5 minutes to analyze the pattern so that you will segment knot it properly.

What really helped me understand segment knotting was to find a tutorial for a bracelet online. This helps you see what you need to do and how to read the pattern. Just find tutorials you really like and follow along, you should get the hang of segment knotting this way
