Alphas: Color switching on the first knot of a new row

Hello all,

I'm having trouble figuring out how to neatly perform a color switch on the first knot of a new row. I'm using the straight edges technique, which makes color switching at the start of a new row complicated. If the last knot in a row is fk/bk or bk/fk, then that knot is both the last knot of one row and the first knot of the next row. But what if the first knot of the next row is supposed to be a different color? That's where I'm getting confused. Right now, I either end up skipping a knot at the end or beginning of a row, or I try to make both knots work, and the result is messy.

Anyone have any advice on this? I don't see any tutorials or videos that are on point.

I hope I explained the issue clearly! Thank you!

What I do when that occurs is instead of doing a fb or bf knot, I just do a f/b knot and it works just the same.

to maintain the straight edges technique and do fb and bf knots on the ends, what i have begun to do is to tie the first half of the next knot starting the next row around both the base string and the old leading string color, then just around the base string for the second half. it works really really well for me and keeps the straight edges!!

@knottahti That's so smart, I never would've thought of that!
