Why does it always say the amount of strings is 1 more than it actually is going a cross?

It counts the starting color as well. So the string count always includes the base strings and the colored string you start knotting with!!

@Tango27 For alphas you have two type of strings. The base strings the ones that all the knots are being made on to, and it does not matter what color they are as they will not be seen. The leading strings (or color strings, as some call them) are the ones that make the knots and appear in the pattern. You will see all kinds of crossing of the strings in alphas, that is the strings crossing in the back of the pattern so that they can appear in a different place for the next knot. The formula for how many strings there are in a pattern is simple, base strings+leading strings=total strings. If you have any more questions you can ask me! ~Zoe |
