Has anyone ever been able to calculate the amount of string necessary for particular patterns based upon the number of knots used ? HOW on earth do you know how much string to cut? I always go by trial and error and ERR every time. Is there a formula to determine string length necessary for any particular pattern? There should be a formula based on the number of knots per inch or using the number of lines... help?

I usually cut my string from the tip of my fingers to the middle of my chest, however if I see that one colour seems to have a lot of knots compare to the other I add around 15 to 30 cm

Hi! I usually stretch out one of my arms, hold the thread in my pointer finger and thumb, then stretch the thread to the elbow across from that hand. Sorry if this sounds confusing! I couldn't really think of a way to word it 😂

Hi. I usually do around a metre but obviously this will vary on the ties you intend to use, what pattern it is, how much of the pattern is used, the length of your wrist ect...

I cut 1 meter if I'm not doing a loop and 2 meters if I am. For the loop string (the string that makes the loop) I cut 6 more inches.

60 inches. I just take a ruler and since 60/12 is 5 and I measure the strings 5 times using a ruler and usually do 5 and a half just in case. Even then if you don’t have enough in the end you can always add in more. I always have enough for 16 cm of a bracelet which wraps around my entire wrist

That's a hard one, but the roughest way to measure is to hold the string with your fingers and stop at the center of your chest. I might add some more based on my ties, but that's usually it

I think with some experience you can probably take pretty accurate guesses how long your different strings need to be. There has to be a math behind it, but I haven't figured it out yet. Sadly :/ I suppose it's probably different for everyone because everyone knots a bit differently.

i usually do 5x the wrist size + however many inches of ties, but if it’s size non specific i go from my finger tips to the center of my chest. if i want a loop i double that length

I just do my wingspan for loops, half of my wingspan for single pieces. I add 4 inches for braids, 15 cm for single colored loops

I also heard someone say that they just wrap each string around their wrist as many times as there are strings in the pattern, and double it for loops, but i havent tried it.

If I am folding the string in half, I go from one hand to the other and hold the string to my wingspan, then cut it where my fingers are. If I'm doing one color, I measure from my fingertips to my opposite shoulder. Hope that helped! 😊
