so i recently did pattern #26653 as my first ever alpha. i followed mashaknots video and switched colors correctly. the cactus part of the pattern is raised up more than the pink. did i possibly do something wrong? it’s not curling it’s just raised up more than the base color.

it’s probably because you didn’t pull the colors when switching tight enough , it’s very important that when you switch to a new color that you make sure it is pulled tightly and it is nice and neat. also if you are using different threads with different textures then that could also be the issue , hope this helped

while it is important to make sure that the knots themselves are tight, make sure you are not cinching up the loose strings in the back when you are switching back and forth. make sure that the connecting strings in the back lay flat. i used to have the same problem until i noticed this!

Mashaknots also has a video on flat alphas which is a slightly different technique and means that the pattern isn’t bumpy. I recommend watching that @lilliang
