My patterns are becoming distorted by elongating, I'm doing everything right, but I know that something must be wrong with my knots if the pattern is elongating. How do I prevent this?

well naturally the more you knot the longer your bracelet gets. but perhaps your knot tension is too loose if the pattern is distorted. for this i recommend making sure your first knot is really tight and close to the bracelet itself. the second knot can be less tight because it secures the first knot in place. so basically try tightening your knot tension. hope this helps!

To clarify, by elongating I mean the pattern is distorting vertically and the picture that the pattern makes is becoming distorted. For example, if the picture that the pattern makes is supposed to look like this: ": )" it ends up looking like this ": )". I'm not sure if that helped clarify things but I hope it did.

maybe then your not tying the second knot tight enough and it's not keeping the first knot in place or keeping its position. idk sorry if this doesn't help just trying haha

yeah i think tightening your knot tension in general would help with this issue

by nature, i have noticed that bracelet knots are longer in one direction than the other, not completely square, but being tighter can at least help some

Can you show us maybe by posting an image to imgur and linking it here?It could possibly be the string you're using. What brand of string are you using? I used a brand of very poor quality once - I can't remember the name, but it came in a value pack and my bracelet I was making was starting to be distorted the more knotted, because the string was fraying so much. It's probably not that though. Maybe try knotting your knots tighter? Then there's no spaces. I also use a (plastic) ruler (very important that it's plastic or wood and NOT metal, because metal can break the string) and every time I'm done with a row, I use the edge of a ruler to push gently on the knots so that I can straighten everything. Hope some of this info helps! |
