how do you set up the strings for alpha

Ok so I know how to do it with the grid but how do you set it up?

I guess it would depend on what you're making. If your pattern is thin enough to be a bracelet (anything more than 30 strings wide is kinda too wide for a bracelet, but everything boils down to personal preference)you could set it up like a normal pattern. Make the loop and fold the strings in the middle. That only works if your pattern uses an even number of strings though. You can also just do a starting braid. I'm pretty sure there's some setup advice in the tutorials section.

I too start with a loop, however, when I'm doing a pattern with more strings I either do two loops or I tie two big knots and when I'm done my bracelet I undo them and make them into ties just like at the end.

I have like a square gird book. I draw the pattern in the book and when I make the bracelet I keep crossing rows of that I have made.🙂
