hi so i can’t add photos so i’ll try and explain as best i can

so i did my first bracelet while following a pattern online rather than a video today!! but it looks really sloppy even though i did every knot correctly and tightly. my other bracelets are extremely neat but this one has a weird shape too!! do thinner bracelets tend to be more ‘sloppy’? i wish i could share a photo

thanks!!!

Do you have a Instagram to send a photo to help further and do you mean your edges are bumpy the straight edge technique will fix the problem do you tie all knots the same tightness

@lilhamster i have set it to my profile photo if that helps! the one i did today is on the left and the one i did following a video is on the right

The knots of the one on the right are tighter together for that you can make sure the first half of your knot is tight and close to your previous knot the second half of the knot just secures it

make sure you’re using the same tension when pulling on the string to make the knots. when i started i had the same problem but you need to make sure that the knots are ending up the same because if you leave looser knots on the same row as tighter ones it will look more sloppy. when you start making more bracelets i promise you’ll get the hang of it! it might take some time and commitment but practice makes perfect!! hope this helped a little bit message me if you have any more questions

you're not dumb at all!

Be aware that certain patterns are more likely to give wonky edges when you're a beginner. Asymmetrical patterns and ones with forward-backward and backward-forward knots can give wonky edges even for experienced knotters.

You might benefit from learning the 'straight edges' technique! There's tutorials here and on Youtube.
