Im pretty sure you just request to be friends, you click on their profile, click "add to friends" and a request should be sent. Then they will approve or deny the request.

That is something I don't know, have you tried searching in the patterns, photos, and videos section to see if they have posted any?

@EllaG go to the very bottom of the page, and there will be some links in grey, click the one that says 'users' and then search for users. Masha's username is @Racoon
