straight edges technique when segment knotting

so when im doing the straight edges technique, how do i segment knot? i just dont know where to do the backward foward knots and foward backward knots

You only do the backward fowards knot and forward backwards knots on the two strings that you added to the pattern, I do them as soon as I see a open spot in my pattern, pattern and craft, as well as Masha knots has good videos that might explain it better.

You should be able to segment knot as normal, you're just adding a couple of extra knots. Pattern and Craft has a good video on the straight edges technique, and all of her patterns on Bracelet Book have the straight edges technique included, so it may be good to do one of her patterns to start if you are unsure of the straight edges technique.
