How do I know how long to make my strings for my bracelets? I always end up cutting them either too long or too short. Which can be super frustrating because I feel like I’m wasting string and feeding in new string when I didn’t originally cut enough can be annoying.

For Normal patterns, I tend to cut my string at a wingspan length (doubling it for loops). I always have string left over but that can be useful for Alpha patterns where I only need a small amount of the colour(s). For Alpha patterns, I tend to do the size of my wrist with an added inch (just to be safe) and then I add an extra 2inches for ties (again doubling it if I am making a loop). If you are making a keychain or a pin brooche you could make the base strings even shorter than that. |

It's almost impossible to cut string the perfect length. The wingspan method works mostly but sometimes fails too.You could try to determine which string needs to be longer or shorter than others by looking at the pattern. The extra string for the straight edges for example needs to be shorter because you only make knots on it, not with it. The string needs to be longer depending on how many knots you need to do with it. |

I usually do 1m plus a bit extra for any ties at the end. Then double of it is a loop 🙂

For normal patterns I recommend having each string be about the length of your wingspan. You can also look at the pattern you are using and determine which strings will be used the most and will need more string and which strings will be used the least and will need less string. If your strings are too short you can always add on more string and if your strings are too long you can save the extra scraps for making alpha pattern bracelets.
