I'd take 10 strings that are double the length you would usually need (2 of each colour), fold them in half (that means you'll actually be working with 20 strings) and do lark's head knots onto the belt buckle. Pay attention that you do it in a way that the colours are symmetrical. Let's say your order of colours is 1,2,3,4,5 on the left then it needs to be 5,4,3,2,1 on the right.

Since you want to start knotting in a straight line you can't just start on the side of the bracelet and take a string and do knots all the way to the middle. You either need to knot row by row or start segment knotting in a way that you don't leave knots out in the first rows.

For making a belt your string also needs to be super long!

@AbigailB10 do you know the number of the pattern?

You say there's bff on it. I don't know exactly what you mean.

There are different knots. What you might mean is a bf knot. The first half of the knot goes to the left and the second half goes to the right.

@AbigailB10

Is your patter an alpha pattern? #21644 for example is an alpha pattern with the word bff on it.

Alpha patterns are made differently than normal patterns. If you go to any alpha pattern on the website there's a tutorial video on how to make alphas linked on the top.
Here's the link to the video: https://youtu.be/_YVFAX9sacw

Basically for an alpha pattern you have one string, the leading string with which you make knots on other strings, the base strings. You go from left to right in one row and from right to left in the next row. You always go back and forth.

To make a knot in a different colour you fold your leading string back and take a string of the colour you want your knot to be and continue knotting with that string as your new leading string.

Is this what you meant?

@AbigailB10 to generate an alpha pattern with the word bff on it you go to the alpha pattern generator and choose alpha from text and enter your word. You can't submit it because simple word patterns are no longer accepted but you can use it for yourself as a pattern. You can also search for patterns with the keyword "bff" or "alphabet" from a pattern with the keyword alphabet you just need to pick the letters you want to do.

Sorry for not understanding your question in the first place. I was thinking to complicatedly.
