Hi there!! As a beginner, I also had a veryy hard time reading alphas. However, I find it helps if you think of them as a weaving pattern, weaving sort of a zigzag-like motion across the base strings. Masha Knots on YouTube also has many amazing tutorials + tips and tricks for all things. I hope this helps you!! : )
