When reading patterns, how do I keep my edges from getting bumpy?????

The straight edges technique will help with the edges so they aren't bumpy. It works for both Normal and Alpha patterns. You basically do backward-forward knots on the left most outer string, and forward-backward knots on the right most outer string. Also try no matter which knots you do at the edge to not leave much string sticking out. Do the knots as close to the previous knots as possible.
