I suggest patterns that are relatively small (10 strings maybe) and don't use many colours (2 to 3 maybe). You could filter the patterns based on that.

I would recommend trying a name bracelet or vertical wave first, as they sort of phase into alphas, even if they aren’t as difficult. After that, I agree with what the OP said, try only having 2-3 colors and not too many strings 😊

One of my first alpha patterns was #34187 because it was small but it still taught me the techniques of the color switch!

Hi I was looking at pattern #35209 and I was wondering... at the edges there are both backward knots and forwards knots... could I switch these for bf and fb knots to create a straight edge

@KirLo04 to do the straight edges technique for normal patterns you need to add an extra string on both sides. The pattern stays the same but you make a bf knot on the left where in the original pattern the string sticks out to the side and a fb knot on the right where the string sticks out at the side of the original pattern. If you don't add the extra string your strings will be in a different position than they should be if you do a bf or fb knot instead of f or b. You can only change knots between two strings of the same colour without it having any effect. |

@halokiwi ok got ya, so would I use the extra string as a base string and that would just stay at the edge the whole time?

I would start with a pattern that has only a few colors and doesn't have so many strings. ❤️
