Hi, ive recently started making alphas after about 6 years of doing normal bracelets. Im struggling with patterns being stretched out and looking odd. For example I did pattern https://www.braceletbook.com/patterns/alpha/19454/ and all my planets look wide but in the long line of the bracelet (if that makes sense). ive tried doing my knots tighter but it doesn't seem to change anything. All my threads are the same brand so I dont think thats the issue. Hopefully this makes some kind of sense to someone!

I'm not sure how it happens exactly but I've seen that before. I think if the thread is too big knots tend to get longer but I'm not sure that this really is the reason. I don't know which thread you are using.

Maybe try a pattern with less colour switches to practice your knot making and tension! That's a pretty complicated pattern

I agree with @robyn_knot try simpler patterns first.
Patterns that are best for beginners are ones with no more than 12 base strings and 2 colours, so maybe go to these patterns just so you can practice.
How are you making your colour changes? If you are using the regular substitution method its much harder to get patterns looking how you'd want, especially when it comes to circles because everything just widens out and stretches so to speak. The 'Flat Alpha Technique' is much more cleaner (in my opinion.)
But as with everything it just comes down to practice, patience and finding out your way of knotting.

I don't think the issue is with how you change colours. It seems to be either how you knot in general or the string you use.

I think I know what you mean—try pushing the rows of knots up with your fingernail, I had that problem on my first alpha too, and it worked. My first alpha was actually the bracelet your making, which I found to be very difficult to start with, so I would recommend maybe trying an easier bracelet so you get practice 😊

Thank you so much everyone. Im going to try a two colour bracelet with few base strings. Ive researched all the Masha knots videos and feel like ive got the flat and the straight edge techniques down, just to practice and get a bit more confident now. Thank you ❤️
