what do i do with patterns that dont have knots on every string? do i cut the extra strings off or so i leave them on?

you can leave the strings as they are (like the pattern) or shaped bracelets. masha knots has a vid on shaped bracelets

There are two ways of doing them. Either you just leave them how they are or you use a technique similar to the one you'd use for triangle ends. MashaKnots really has a video on it. You have to look for "shaped bracelet". I think she has two videos where she does a snowflake bracelet. In the first one she leaves the strings how they are and in the second one she uses the technique you'd use for triangle ends.
