How long should I make the base strings for an alpha bracelet about?

The length of the bracelet + the length of the ties + some extra to be safe

Since you only make knots onto the base strings, not with the basestrings you don't need that much of them.

I cut my wingspans length and cut in half when I know I will wear the alpha but a small keychain I make 6 rows in 1 cm so how many rows I divide it into how many cm I need and sometimes I cut wingspans length and cut them in half and cut that in half. I hope that made sense to you I don’t know to explain it well

you can cut strings based on the pattern that you are doing , i mostly just eye it , and don’t forget to make room for your loops and triangles (if you choose to do so)

Usually I Make my base strings around 1 foot if I’m doing regular ties but if I’m doing a loop then I make them 2 foot.

i rarely ever make alpha patterns into actual bracelets, because i think they’re cooler as keychains, but base strings won’t get any shorter so if you’re going one for your wrist, measure one length for strings, another for however big your bracelet is, and then another one identical to the first one you made 🙂

I normally use the pattern for reference and then if I'm doing ties, I leave about 10 to 15cm for the ties and I double it if I do a loop.

can I ask a question? I am going to make an alpha bracelet and I am going to cut 15in for the tie + 5.5in for the actuall bracelet. For the second tie (in the end) am I going to add another 15in? Like 15in+5.5in+15in?

You could. For me 15inches would do the two ties, so you could have enough with the initial 15inch (depending how long the pattern is of course)

Take a look at this tutorial:

https://www.braceletbook.com/tutorials/8_bracelet-knots/

If you want a visual, MashaKnots on Youtube has a great video for the basic knots, and also has a tutorial on beginner friendly bracelets, I suggest starting off with the Chevron.

Can you add string to previous base strings?

@lejacobs08 I've never did it but I'd do it the same way you'd add new leading string too. You fold the old string back and put the new in its place.
