hello. i am currently making this pattern: https://www.braceletbook.com/patterns/alpha/167615/. it is my first alpha pattern bracelet, though not my first bracelet. i'm about 3/8 of the way through.i wish i could attach an image but i don't see a mechanism in this forum. (i suppose i could always go through imgur or something if it's okay with people here?) anyway, the knots are very... variable in their apparent size, and the base strings are vaguely visible in various places. the lighter coloured lines running through vertically are often almost invisible as they're dominated by the bigger blue knots around them and it's all very messy. i'm struggling to figure out what it is i'm actually doing inconsistently. the parts that are just normal knots seem fine so maybe i'm doing colour changes badly or something. i was following the tutorial that's linked from all of the pattern pages on this site. any diagnostics would be appreciated because the other 2 photos on that pattern look so much nicer and cleaner than mine. |

A) My first 3 alphas SUCKED. like, holes everywhere, base strings showing, they SUCKED. As much as I hate this advice, it is something that gets better with practice.B) Are you using the same brand of thread for all the strings? I've noticed that (while it is mostly ok in normals),thread brands make a huge differnce in alphas. C) Are you using the flat alpha teqnique? I recomend Masha knots' tutorial for it on youtube. Hope this helped! ❤️ |

fair. i'm doing the first 2 things, certainly. i'm working on a second alpha and it's going better-ish.a notable problem: if there are 2 successive colour changes, the knot in the middle tends to end up really small and kind of inset and dominated by the ones around it. this kind of ruins some of the finer detail and i would like to know if there's anything specific that causes this. |

@heav Make sure to @ whoever you're replying to so they get a message! I also have that problem, I usually fix it by fiddling around with the knot until I'm happy with how it looks. ❤️

I also usually make that knot a little looser than the others.

Also make sure all your strings are the same size or thickness
