Not exactly a newbie, but still haven't figured out how to cut strings without them being too short-- or wayyyy too long. I'm making a 20 string ( #32261) and would hate to waste that much time and string and have it end up being too short

***In general this strategy works for people of a basic build but if your body type is a bit more unordinary or you just have oddly big/small wrists this might need some editing***
THIS IS FOR NORMAL PATTERNS, FOR ALPHAS IT DOESN't REALLY MATTER
How I do it is that if every string ties the same amount of knots that's the base unit, and one string that is NOT being folded in half should be half your wingspan.
Using this and some math we can figure out roughly how long each string should be.
step 1: figure out how many knots total are in one go through of the design and divide that by how many strings there are. Thats the basic amount (half wingspan for one string that will not be folded)
step 2: figure out how many knots each string ties and compare that to your base amount of knots to get roughly how long it should be. BTW because it takes length just to exist within a bracelet if something has half the knots (for example) it should be about 3/4 the length of your basic length.
Hope this makes sense! Its more of an art than a science and you can figure it out with experience in general. Don't worry TOO much about wasting string, you got it to use it and in general if your a beginner don't go using like DMC or other pretty expensive thread, just get some from a craft store (its SO VERY MUCH CHEAPER and pretty close)

btw it might need some changing if ur wrists are more small/big bc it relies on a certain sort of ratio between ur wingspan and wrist size so if ur short but with large wrists its gonna be too short
