I know when you make alphas, naturally the knots are going to slant. The knots I make are often really slanted and affect the look of the pattern, and inherently makes it look bad. To be clear, the patterns I make don't become elongated or widened, they're normal in that sense.
I've seen photos of other peoples alphas, and some of them have their knots completely straight, and others with slightly slanted knots that aren't very noticeable.
I have already tried tightening my knots, loosening them, pulling down after making the second knot, pushing the knots up with a ruler after each row, and pulling down on the base strings after each row to straighten out the knots.
Any tips for straightening out the knots or making them less slanted that I haven't tried?

i haven’t tried it myself, but i have heard someone say to drag a toothpick or something similar across the row to unslant it, if that makes sense?

When I tie my alphas I pull the knots straight up if that makes sense. It makes them look straighter.

losening my knots and pushing them with a ruller really helped for me, if this didnt work for you try to have base strings the same or thicker as leading string.
