why do strings come from the side

In certain patterns, (such as #55959,) the strings come in from the side. Does this mean that you add them later on in the bracelet? I don't get it :' (

that type of pattern is called an alpha. they have base strings that don’t knot, and the main strings go back and forth, knotting in each string. the strings coming in are added for the different colors, and they are added in later when they’re needed. i probably did a terrible job explaining, but there’s plenty of videos on youtube, and one linked at the top of all alph ma
