Alpha patterns: how long should i make the base strings?

this is my very first time doing an alpha pattern, I want to double the base strings by wrapping them around a key ring to not use to much embroidery thread, but I'm not sure how long they need to be. 🤨 🤔 The pattern I really want to do is: #172955 |

With base strings you just measure them to how long you want the project to be, or just estimate if you can't tell. In your case with this pattern, I would probably do an arms length, and when you fold that in half that would be enough for me to do this pattern. |

I always make mine around half a meter for bracelets, not sure about keychains though. But it’s always better to use more string than to cut too short and run out. Plus you can save the leftovers for other projects
