Is there any way to calculate how long I should make the string for a keychain/bracelet? Im gonna start a pattern from here and have only ever used video tutorials to make bracelets so Im unsure on how long I should make the thread. Thanks!

Check out @halokiwi s tutorial! https://www.braceletbook.com/tutorials/173_how-to-calculate-string-length-in-a-normal-pattern/
My personal way involves quite a bit of math, (for bracelets) first count the total knots and amount of strings then divide the amount of strings by 2 (cuz for normal patterns every two strings ties 1 knot) then take that number and divide the amount of knots by that. That is ur "wingspan" length, basically the length it would be if every string ties equal knots. count the knots each string uses and compare it to the wingspan amount of knots for every knot less/more than the wingspan amount add or subtract like 2-1.5 inches, I don't have an exact amount for that yet. make sure to add extras for ties and such. for keychains u just figure out how long its gonna be compared to a bracelet and say its 1/5th use 1/5th the string.
for alphas its less complicated because it is EXTREMELY easy to add more lead string but it takes more string than expected (at least for me) (the way u add lead string is the same way u add a color) base strings should be roughly the length of the bracelet/keychain plus some extra so its always easy to tie the knots on plus some for ties and such
