Hey! My name is Joy!

Do you guys have any tips for me or anyone on alphas?
Im making my first one and it’s bumpy the rows aren’t really
neat. Uhm, yeah. Any tips or things I should do next time to
make it neat?

Hi Joy 😄

Since you already started, this won't be very useful, but I definitely recommend alphas with not so many base strings and colours to beginn with.

For now I have two things that I can tell you:

If you aren't already, I recommend using the flat alpha technique. MashaKnots has a great video on it. It avoids colour changes being bumpy.

The other thing I can tell you is that you can try to push up each row after tying it with a ruler or something similar to straighten them a little.

Oh and one more thing:
If you are using embroidery floss or string that isn't all by the same brand, there might be a difference in string thickness which leads to knots of different sizes and unevenness and bumpiness.

Here are a couple tips I have:

1. If you’re not already doing it, use the flat alpha technique. It makes color changes neater. There’s a tutorial on it in the tutorial section and @Racoon (Masha Knots) also has a tutorial on it.
2. A ruler is your best friend. After every row or two, use a ruler or a straight edge to push your rows up/down to make it even and straight.
3. Don’t make your knots too tight. If you make them too tight, it’ll be hard to adjust if you mess up.
4. The straight edge technique makes alphas neater. It make the edges straight, instead of zigzagging.

Hope this helps! 🩵

Making sure that you're holding your base string taut when you're knotting on top of it will also help; it prevents the base string from folding around your lead string and creating excess mass in your knots 🙂
