how do you find the right string length because I can always either cut them too long or too short or I just don't have enough string. Can someone please tell me? 🙈

it should be about the length of your hand from your shoulder 👍

something i use is to measure a long length of string. doesnt really matter how long as long as you know the number (eg 30 inches). make the bracelet then measure how much you have left over (eg 6 inches). now you know to use 24 inches next time

i do it kinda free hand, but basically if all the strings are gonna be equal and there’s 8 strings then i do half my wingspan per strand, say there’s 10 strings then that’s 1.25x 8 so i do 1.25x the string and then say one string ties 8 knots in a pattern and another only ties 4 then obviously the one that ties four knots needs to be shorter. so for that i take the percent of knots that that string ties compared to total amount of knots tied in that one pattern, if it’s equal to 1/ how ever many strings there are then i don’t adjust the whole wingspan thing, if it’s more than i add whatever percent more it is to that much more to the amount (ie if it’s 2/7 then 2/7 of the wingspan thing amount plus the wingspan thing amount) and if it’s less i do less by the same kinda logic. this generally gives me roughly the right amount. if im gonna add a special start or braid then obviously add extra for that. also i dont generally do exact amounts i estimate.sorry if this was rambley or doesn’t make much sense 🙃 |

It’s always better to cut more than u actually need in my opinion!! That way u know u won’t run out of thread and have room to make it long enough plus ties. Make sure you don’t throw away your thread cutting though, they can come in hand when making alphas or rag rugs!!

@str6yk1ds and if you do run out, you can always attach new string the same way you would do a colour switch in an alpha.

@halokiwi yes! That’s a super helpful technique if u do ever run out of string when making a bracelet.
