To avoid holes, pull the first half of the knot tight and then do the second half. The knot tightness that works for you will come with time and practice. There is no correct tension. |

Hi! I’m kinda new to making alpha bracelets but whenever I make them the bracelet always gets thicker and thicker while I’m making it. Does anyone have any tips on how I can make the edges straight instead of making the bracelet thicker?

Generic but most important advice: practice will make a difference. But you can also try to tie your knows a little looser so when the edges become crooked it is easier to pull or push them to make them straighter. For me, edges are also straighter when my rows are straight and for that too you would require looser knots. I hope this helps!

practice makes progress! i like to tie my first knot tight and then my second knot slightly looser to avoid gapping. i would also make sure that you’re being consistent with your knots. gapping can happen if your knots are different tightnesses, so make sure that you’re not leaving some looser than others. if you tie your knots too tight, the bracelet can gap because the knots are not big enough to fill the empty space. pulling too tight can also sort of pull knots away from eachother and make them gap. i would also suggest using thread that is all the same brand. some brands of thread are softer than others which makes it harder to tie the knot as tight. brands can also differ in thickness, meaning some have more string than others, which makes the knots bigger. different knot size and tightness within a bracelet can cause it to gap, be uneven, and be bumpy. as you make more bracelets you’ll find that your knotting will get better and you won’t have to pay as much attention to how tight you’re pulling.
