How long should I make the strings for an alpha bracelet?

So far, I've made two alpha bracelets and I made the base strings on both too long! This resulted in me wasting a lot of string. So, how do I know how long the base strings need to be?

@froggle_ measure your wrist and then make enough room on both ends to make ties and that’s how I measure how long to make the base strings.

I’d normally make mine the size of my wrist plus about 12cm of space for twist ties, and it’s okay if you make them too long because if the leftover strings are long enough, you can always reuse them for alphas in the future so nothing goes to waste.

@Fietje09 If you plan on making the whole thing, you could measure how many knots you are doing in a cm/inch (whatever unit you use ^^) and add that up to the length you'd need for those dimensions. Then add a bit more string depending on how you want to start and finish it 😊 I hope this helps! 🙈

For me, 12 rows = about an inch/2.5 cm (but I round up if its not divisible by 12 to be safe) and then I double it for one base string so I have enough for ties. If you’re doing a loop you’re going to have to double twice so that you have enough for 2 base strings. Hope this helps! 🩵

If i’m being honest I just guess for the base strings because I’ve gotten pretty good at knowing how long it needs to be…it just takes practice! Also for the color strings in an alpha I usually just keep the string on the bobbin because I never know how much it takes!
