Hey I am a newbie and I wanted to ask what is an Alpha pattern? What’s the difference between Alpha and all the other patterns?

alpha patterns have base strings on which you tie knots to vs normal patterns where you tie knots to the thread right next to it, i hope i described that correctly but theres some really good videos on the internet if you still feel confused

I think the easiest way to see the difference is to look at both alpha and normal patterns.Go to 'patterns'. There you can put the 'type' to 'normal' or 'alpha': Normals: https://www.braceletbook.com/patterns/?type=n Alphas: https://www.braceletbook.com/patterns/?type=a Normal patterns and alpha patterns have different structures. Alpha patterns where originally used to spell out words. That's where their name comes from. Alpha is short for alphabet. Nowadays alphas often have more complex images on them than just text. Normal patterns are probably the ones that you are familiar with and that most people think of when someone mentions friendship bracelets (unless they think of beaded bracelets). Popular normal patterns that are also beginner friendly are #2 #1 #18 #2772 |

alpha patterns do not have a specific repeating pattern to them, whereas normal patterns do. alpha patterns involve adding different threads of different colors AFTER you have started the project, whereas normal patterns do not involve adding or removing any strings once you start. additionally, normal patterns will have continuous repeating segments, such as a red diamond, blue diamond, yellow diamond, then red then blue then yellow etc. over and over.
