If you haven’t tried making one yet, you can try to start off with the most simple one with less than 5 colours and you can end up learning as you work on it, then if it’s still confusing you can go back to watching a video tutorial.

@Pearlflower I agree with @Kayla517 that you should try doing an alpha with only 2 colors and 10 strings or less. It really helps to just jump in and make one because that’s how you learn. Also your first alpha will probably look a little wonky because you are learning. Practice practice practice. I hope that makes sense.

Do you understand how to make alphas and just font understand how to read the patterns? Or do you also not understand how to make them? If it's just about reading and not about making: Each square in an alpha pattern represents a knot. Alphas are knotted row by row with alternating rows, from the left to the right and from the right top three left. You start on the top left and make a forward knot of the colour that is on the top left. Then you look at the second knot in that row. If it's the same colour, you can just do the knot. If it is a different colour, you need to switch to a different leading string. You do this until you get to the end of the row. In the second row you do the same thing, just with backward knots. You look at the colours of the knots in the pattern and then make the knots of these colours. |

What exactly is it, that you don't understand about reading patterns? Patterns tell you which knot needs to be which colour In the first row you read from the left to the right. You look at which colour the first knot has and then you make a knot of that colour. You look at which colour the second knot has and then you make a knot of that colour. It goes on like that until the end of the row. In the second row, you do knot by knot from the right to the left. In the third row, you again read from the left to the right In the fourth row, you read from the right top the left. It continues like this again and again until you are at the end of the pattern. |

In the rows where you knot from the left to the right, you use forward knots. In the rows where you knot from the right top the left, you use backwards knots. Row 1, 3, 5... : f knots Row 2, 4, 6... : b knots The next part is optional: (If you want to use the straight edges technique, you replace all knots on the left edge with bf knots and all knots on the right edge with fb knots. Left edge: bf knots Right edge: fb knots) |

In alphas there are two types of strings: base strings and leading stringsThe base strings are the strings onto which you knot They go like this: ||| They can be any colour You only see them in the ties at the beginning and the end The leading strings are the strings with which you make the knots They go like this: - - - You need one leading string per colour You start with all the base strings and only the leading string of the first colour You make the knots with that leading string until you need to switch colours Then you add a new leading string You put the unused leading string to the back and out of the way |

Like in a challenge if the person who started asked “when your done your pattern send me a photo and I will judge it” how do I do that how do I show them the photo of my bracelet

@hana_mana if you had told them the pattern number, they can go to the pattern and see your photo. There's no way to like send it to them or show them. They just go to the pattern you submitted the photo to and they can see your photo there
