That's difficult to estimate

30 rows aren't a lot, so not lots of string for the base strings

You can just leave the leading strings on the skein and cut them in the end

Once you have made one alpha, you'll be able to estimate the length of base string needed, because base strings always need to be the length of the bracelet plus some extra for ties. If you do a loop, you need double the length.

It is kinda hard to get down at first, but after you make a few, it just takes a second to figure out how long you need your strings! Minus triangle ends, or loops, or anything like that, you only need strings as long as your pattern is. For example, with ones that I have made, 15 rows is -around- an inch. Of course, that can vary depending on what kind of string you use and how tight you knot, but that's usually how I measure my patterns! Also, always give yourself more string than you need! It's a lot better to have more string than you need than to not have enough! Hope this helps (:

The other responses have really valuable information; just remember that you should always go longer than you think and don't be afraid of scrap string! It has lots of uses! Better too long than too short and having to start all over again!
